Manchester City host Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad on Wednesday 14 October (kick-off 8 pm BST), with City top of the Premier League after a 3-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday and PSG, the Champions League holders, leading the league-phase table after beating Slovan Bratislava 6-1.

Manchester City vs PSG

City are 8-0 in all competitions this season with 23 goals scored. They won 2-0 at Porto on matchday one and are unbeaten at the top of the Premier League after six games. It is the first season of the post-Guardiola era under Enzo Maresca, and it is going very well.

PSG have had a strange domestic autumn. They sit sixth in Ligue 1, three points behind unbeaten leaders Monaco, though they beat Le Mans 3-1 at the weekend; in Europe, they are a different animal altogether, with Ousmane Dembélé scoring in five consecutive Champions League appearances and Ferran Torres netting a hat-trick against Slovan. Dangerous.

The head-to-head leans PSG’s way in recent seasons: they won 4-2 in the 2024-25 league phase after trailing 2-0. But PSG have not won their last four visits to Manchester, losing three by an aggregate 5-1, and City have lost only one of their last 25 home group- or league-phase matches.

Team news & injuries

City have no injury or suspension concerns. Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo and Nico O’Reilly recovered from minor problems over the break, and Phil Foden is available after serving a three-match domestic ban. Jérémy Doku is back from a calf problem but, according to Maresca, is expected to be on the bench again.

PSG are missing Senny Mayulu, who suffered a thigh problem on Under-21 duty and is out for around a month, according to one report, although Sports Mole says a dead leg will be assessed before kick-off. Dembélé and Nuno Mendes were rested against Le Mans and are expected back.

Predicted line-ups

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma – Nunes, Dias, Guéhi, Gvardiol – Anderson, Fernández – Semenyo, Cherki, Doku – Haaland.

PSG (4-3-3): Safonov – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes – Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz – Torres, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia.

The key battle

Haaland against PSG’s back line. He has 36 goals in 40 Champions League appearances, and one more would take him past Sergio Agüero as City’s all-time top scorer in the competition. PSG’s centre-backs have faced plenty of elite strikers, but few who score at this rate.

In midfield, Vitinha and Neves will test Anderson and Enzo Fernández to see who controls the tempo. PSG average 3.41 xG per game over their last five, while City have been more clinical than creative. Whoever wins the second balls wins the night.

Manchester City vs PSG Predictions & tips

This is the best game of the week. City are in better form and at home, PSG have the better attack on paper, and Opta gives City 43.4%, PSG 33.0% and the draw 23.6%, which is about as honest a reading as the numbers allow given how evenly matched the sides look. Both teams score. The scoreline could get silly.

Tip: Both teams to score. Predicted score: Manchester City 2-2 PSG.
