Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday 20 October (kick-off 8 pm BST) in matchday three of the Champions League league phase. The holders have won five games in a row and beat Manchester City 4-2 last Wednesday. Barcelona have won all 11 of their games this season and sit top of the league-phase table. Raphinha is expected back.

Form & what’s at stake

PSG opened with a 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava and followed it with the 4-2 win at the Etihad, where Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha scored inside the first 32 minutes. They then rotated for a 3-1 win at Strasbourg on Saturday. In Ligue 1, they have 14 points from seven games, level with Monaco.

Barcelona beat Feyenoord 5-1 and Galatasaray 4-1, and they have nine goals from two European games. They won 5-2 at Real Betis on Saturday and have 27 points from nine La Liga games.

Both clubs have a reason to treat this as a final. PSG chase a third straight title, a feat only Real Madrid have managed in the Champions League era. Barcelona haven’t won the trophy since 2015, when Luis Enrique, now in the PSG dugout, was their coach.

The history is lopsided. PSG won the last meeting 2-1 in October 2025, and they beat Barcelona over two legs in the 2024 quarter-final.

Team news & injuries

Raphinha missed the Getafe game, the Galatasaray game, and the start at Betis with a thigh problem, diagnosed as oedema, not a tear. He came on after 69 minutes on Saturday and is expected to be available. Frenkie de Jong is back in full training after a medial ligament injury, and Joan García is fit. Andreas Christensen remains out.

PSG rested Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Pacho, Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, Dembélé and Doué for the first hour at Strasbourg, so all should be fresh. Senny Mayulu was out with a thigh problem earlier in the month and is a doubt.

Predicted line-ups

Paris Saint-Germain (4-3-3): Safonov – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes – Neves, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz – Doué, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia.

Barcelona (4-3-3): Joan García – Koundé, Cubarsí, Martin, García – Pedri, Rodri – Yamal, Fermín/Olmo, Gabriel Jesus/Gordon – Raphinha.

Our PSG XI is based on the City game; the Barcelona XI comes from the Betis team sheet and Raphinha’s return. Neither side has confirmed anything.

The key battle

Yamal against Nuno Mendes. Mendes is one of the best attacking full-backs in the game, but he is also one of the best defenders against wide forwards. Their battle last year was also spectacular.

Yamal scored and assisted for Betis, and he is a Ballon d’Or contender in a few days. Whichever side wins that duel will likely take the initiative.

In midfield, Vitinha vs Pedri will decide the tempo. PSG can drop their line and counter or press high, and Barcelona must decide whether to push their own line up. That is where the game will turn.

PSG vs Barcelona Predictions & tips

This could be one of the season’s matches. PSG have the better recent record in this fixture and the holders’ composure. Barcelona have the better attack by raw numbers and the best form in Europe. We expect goals at both ends, and PSG’s home advantage should be enough for a single-goal win.

Tip: Both teams to score, both teams to score 1,5 over. Predicted score: PSG vs Barcelona 2-1, 3-2 or 3-3.
