PSG drew 2-2 at Rennes on 23 August and 2-2 with Lille on 28 August. Four scored, four conceded, two points. The attack works. The defending has been careless in a way Luis Enrique’s sides usually aren’t, and both draws came from leads PSG failed to protect. Luis Enrique has also taken Ousmane Dembélé off at half-time in the Lille game, showing that everyone needs to focus and do their best.
Monaco have been the opposite. Eric Dier headed in a Flávio Nazinho corner on 14 minutes to win 1-0 at Le Havre on 23 August. A week later, Paris Brunner scored in the 13th and 53rd minutes as Monaco beat Marseille 2-0 at the Stade Louis II. Six points, three goals scored, none conceded.
The Marseille match is the one worth studying. Marseille had 65% of the ball and managed two shots on target. Monaco had five. Filipe Luís, appointed in July on a deal to June 2028 after Sébastien Pocognoli was sacked, has built a side that is entirely comfortable without possession. PSG will have the ball on Friday. Monaco will not mind.

Team news & injuries
Nuno Mendes is unavailable for PSG, serving the final match of a suspension. That removes a first-choice full-back from a defence that has already given up four goals in two league matches. Lucas Digne seems to be left out of today’s game.
For Monaco, Folarin Balogun, Edan Diop, Ansu Fat and Mohammed Salisu are sidelined. Dier and Brunner are the two players who have decided their matches so far, and both should start.
Predicted line-ups
PSG: Luis Enrique has to solve the left side without Nuno Mendes and find someone who defends the space his full-backs vacate. Expect the usual heavy possession structure, a high line and full-backs stepping into midfield. It has produced four goals in two games. It has also produced four conceded.

Expect a mid-block, quick transitions and a genuine willingness to let PSG have the ball in areas where it does not hurt.

The key battle
Monaco’s back line against PSG’s overloads in the final third. Marseille could not break Monaco down with two-thirds of the ball, and PSG will pose a harder question with better runners. Dier is not quick, and Monaco does not play a high line, so the question is whether PSG’s midfield can find the pockets between the lines before Monaco collapse the space.
The other thread is set-pieces. Both Monaco goals at Le Havre and one of Brunner’s came from situations PSG have not defended well this season.

The market has PSG at roughly a 72% implied chance of winning, which is the sort of price you get when a bookmaker looks at squad value and ignores three weeks of evidence. PSG are better. They are also leaking goals and missing a first-choice full-back, against the only side in the division yet to concede.
The last meeting between these two finished PSG 1-3 Monaco. PSG lead the recent series 5-3 with two draws, so this is not a hoodoo. But a Monaco side that has conceded nothing in two matches will not be beaten comfortably, and PSG have not kept a clean sheet yet either.
